Roberto Revilla:

Welcome to another Tailoring Talk Shortcast. This is your Roberto Revilla, , and today we're delving deeper into the world of relaxed tailoring. This trend is not just a modern invention it has deep roots in the history of fashion. I'm going to take you on a little journey to explore its evolution, its iconic moments and how you can incorporate this timeless yet contemporary style into your wardrobe. The concept of relaxed tailoring has been around for decades, evolving alongside shifts in social norms and lifestyles. Think of the 1920s and 30s, when the likes of the Duke of Windsor began to experiment with softer tailoring, introducing a more relaxed fit and less structured garments. Fast forward to the 60s and 70s, and designers like Giorgio Armani revolutionized men's wear with deconstructed jackets and natural shoulder lines, paving the way for today's relaxed tailoring. In more recent years, we've seen designers like Brunello Cuccinelli take this concept further, blending luxurious fabrics with a more casual, understated approach.

Roberto Revilla:

This trend is a response to our changing lifestyles, where the lines between formal and casual are increasingly blurred. When we talk about relaxed tailoring, we focus on fabric, fit and design. We're looking at breathable materials like linen and soft walls. The fit is crucial. It's about achieving a balance between comfort and a flashering silhouette, and in design we think less structured shoulders and online jackets. To bring this style into your wardrobe, begin with some versatile pieces. A softly tailored blazer is a great start. Whether you're a guy or a girl, it can be dressed up with trousers or kept casual with a pair of well fitted jeans. My customers listening to this will see me doing this a lot, especially through the winter months of the year. Don't be afraid to experiment with colors and textures. Earthy tones and subtle patterns can add depth to your outfit. And remember, while relaxed, the fit should still respect your body's shape.

Roberto Revilla:

Re-vamping your wardrobe for relaxed tailoring doesn't require a complete overhaul. Start by reviewing your wardrobe and assessing your current pieces. Can a tailor, such as our alteration friends at our workroom, adjust them for a softer fit? Mix those tailored items with more casual pieces like polo shirts or like knitwear. Seeing one of my clients at an event recently and I saw a photo shoot from the event he was wearing one of the blazers that I made him a beautiful gray tweed and he paired it with a gorgeous knit polo shirt. That's one way that you can change things up. And also, don't forget footwear. Think loafers, elegant sneakers. They all play a big role in pulling together this type of look.

Roberto Revilla:

Relaxed tailoring is about embracing comfort without losing elegance. It's a nod to the past, a reaction to the present and the trend that is here to stay. So take this journey, mix the old with the new and find your unique style within this versatile trend. And, as ever, you can always contact me directly for tips and advice on how you can change things up this season or any season. That's all for today's little deep dive into relaxed tailoring.
